Well I have this dilemma…and I think we all have this same problem. Deep within the human heart is the desire to know that we are loved and valued. We feel the pain of loneliness and rejection so profoundly because God designed our spirits for the exhilaration of being loved and loving in return. The longing for acceptance, the ache for love, is one of the primary driving forces in our lives. The problem is not that our desire for love is real – it’s the distance between that knowledge of His love and our actual experience of it. It’s Believing it or not.
The gap between knowing that God loves us and actually experiencing that love is rooted in living from a false identity based on the way people receive us, rather than on how God receives us.
God wants our identity and sense of value to be rooted and grounded in the knowledge of His affections for us (Eph. 3:17-18). This is where our hearts come alive.
